I've added a few 'end of day' sea glass necklaces to my shops, following a trip to some beaches in the north of England, on my way home from a holiday in Scotland.
'End of day' glass is glass that was used by the workers at the end of the day to make items in their own time. Sometimes it was also pieces of glass that the glass workers dumped at the end of the day. Over time this has found its way into the sea and been washed, frosted and smoothed by the movement of the waves on sand and stones to make these rare gems. End of Day glass is also know as multi or multicoloured glass because it is made up of several colours. Although more common in some areas than others, pieces like this are rare and treasured.
Then, of course, there's 'flashed glass' which is different again. Here an item was made in a cheaper glass, often clear, and then dipped in a more expensive coloured glass to give the impression of a more expensive piece. Often this was then cut to show the colour(s) of the glass underneath. Again, this does wash up on beaches. Again this is often known as 'multi' glass.
So, with some of the treasures I have found I have simply mounted to make unusual necklaces for those wanting something less complicated than my usual necklace styles but just as interesting. I have offered these for sale in the past and they were snapped up very quickly at my fairs. I offered more during North Somerset Arts Week and again they proved to be very popular. I've no more shows until September, when they begin in earnest for the run up to Christmas, so am selling them in my Etsy and Folksy shops. Each one is different and, as is the nature with much sea glass, unrepeatable. Each is also for sale at less than my normal fair or gallery price so grab a bargain whilst you can. If you only want the pendant, not the chain then let me know and we can work out a price. All things are possible.
So, without further ado, here are the current offerings. If you want something different keep looking as I will be adding more items over the coming days. Or get in touch, I might have what you want tucked away in my stock boxes. Click on the pictures to be taken to the item.
